Objectives
First semester curricular unit (3 ECTS), with the following learning objectives:
- Identify the various types of scientific and technical communication and their role in the academic, industrial and general public;
- Develop the ability to critically reflect on the research process;
- Know how to organize and present information in accordance with good rules of oral and written communication in science.
Learning outcomes and competences
As a result of learning in this CU, students should become competent in identifying the various genres of scientific and technical communication, in reflecting critically about the research process and in organising and presenting information according to the good rules of oral and written communication in science.

Fundamentals of communication and dissemination in science.
Scientific communication, dissemination and publication formats in health.
Bibliometric databases and impact factor.
Scientific article:
- The scientific article and the editorial process;
- Peer review process as a guarantee of the quality of scientific research;
- Organization, structuring and writing of the scientific article;
- Organization, structuring and writing a summary (abstract);
- Fundamental issues of language and style in science communication;
- References and reference management software;
- Revisions and corrections;
- The article of scientific dissemination - communication with the non-specialized public.
Organization, structuring and writing of a research protocol, technical report and PhD thesis.
Oral communications:
- Iconography and visual communication formats - Slides and Poster.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching of this curricular unit includes a theoretical-practical component and a tutorial orientation component, with great emphasis on the practical application of good scientific communication techniques, in written and oral form. The student must write an scientific work of a given type (technical report, scientific article, dissemination article, etc.) that will be the subject of discussion, review and evaluation, as well as a panel presentation that will be discussed, commented and evaluated.
