Objectives

The Research and Statistics curricular unit aims to prepare students to be able to:

- Structuring databases in different formats (xlsx, .sav)

- Know and interpret graphical representations of data using statistical software

- Know and correctly apply statistical inference techniques

- Use statistical applications for planning, control, interpretation and decision support

The expected Learning Outcomes are:

- Summarize data sets using descriptive measures.

- Describe data sets using graphical representations.

- Plan a study.

- Select a representative sample.

- Interpret data of qualitative and quantitative nature.

- Formulate and test hypotheses.

Teaching methods and learning activities

In the classes are adopted: the expository method for the transmission of knowledge about the subjects foreseen in the syllabus and the demonstrative method in the transmission of the techniques and statistical procedures in the resolution of the proposed exercises. In the classes with the statistical software the active method is adopted, motivating the student actively and consciously for their own learning.

Calculation formula of final grade

The curricular unit evaluation includes the realization during the semester of an individual test to evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired and a group work with the elaboration of a report. The individual evaluation component will have a minimum weight of 60% of the final grade, the remaining 40% of the grade will be for the group work component.
