Objectives

The curricular unit is set on the development, presentation and defense of an individual and original work that includes an objective / justification, a thematic development, in the case of the Monography or a report of the activities developed within the scientific or professional internship. It is further aimed the development of competencies and interprofessional skills, in a professionalizing environment, within the frame of Biomedical Sciences and related areas. It is intended that the student acquires experience in the development of research or review works, know search and correct information, have critical sense and make a self-assessment exercise carried out clinical activity.

According to the theme to be developed by students, they are established specific objectives by the respective supervisor.

Learning outcomes and competences

In this case, It should be considered the specificity of the adequacy of the program content to the theme to be developed by students, taking into account the objectives that are proposed and always with a logic of professional or scientific competence development.

Students will develop the knowledge and skills provided in the objectives set by the respective advisor, and shall ensure to such consistency.

The syllabus of the curricular unit are developed depending on the chosen approach - monography or internship report, as well as the chosen thematic.

The student will have later the support of an advisor or and, if necessary, a co-superviser in the respective scientific area.

Teaching methods and learning activities

It should be considered the thematic of the monography or the internship report to be developed, as well as the inherent subjectivity of the teaching methodologies of the respective advisors who will be responsible to supervise the preparation of the business plan required to the implementation of the monography or internship report; support the implementation of actions to develop, according to the business plan proposed; collaborate with the coadvisor (if existed) on all matters relating to the work to be done; guide the development of the final work; ensure compliance with the deadlines of the final work and support the student in the public presentation.

The jury is composed by a president, an arguer and an advisor.

The public defense must be ensured within a maximum of 60 minutes.

It will be assigned a numerical scale rating of 0-20.

Internship work/project

The Interprofessional aspect is the basis of Education in the area of Health Sciences. In this context, it must be ensured that the organization of the objectives defined in the Curricular Unit must be based on the acquisition of competences. Interaction with other educational institutions should improve specific skills, and the final results must be reflected not only in research but also in the training profile of students. For this reason, the connection of the Faculty to the external environment and the students of the Integrated Master in concrete should be fostered and extended to Institutions of the various transversal areas that complete the training of the future dentists.

Students learn, by doing the work, to reflect and decide on issues, adopting alternatives if needed and improving their skills, always with the supervision of the respective advisor.

Observations

The Integrated Master in Dental Medicine includes, in the composition of the 5th curricular year of its Study Plan, the curricular unit "Monograph / Internship Report".

The preparation of the research leading to the realization of this curricular unit is guided by a Professor or Researcher at the University of Porto with a PhD in the scientific area of ​​the dissertation, or by a holder of the title of Specialist under the terms of the law in force.

The Advisor or Co-Supervisor, if exists, may be national or foreign, and the inclusion of a doctor or doctoral researcher in the scientific area(s) of the study cycle belonging to the study cycle must always be ensured in the institutional perimeter of the U. Porto.

The Student can choose between the following models to complete the course: Dissertation of Monograph or Internship Report.
