Objectives
To develop autonomy in the approach of pediatric patients and with special needs, regardless of their systemic condition. Competence in :patient's motivation and education, diagnosing, treatment plan design, evaluation of treatment results; also need's identification for advanced and / or multidisciplinary approach, as well as the ability to perform pediatric dentistry treatment.
Promote and develop competence in Oral Health primary prevention.
To promote and develop Community Oral Health competences.
Know the anomalies of occlusion and most types of orthodontic appliances. Train for the diagnosis of malocclusion, including cephalometric and aesthetic facial analysis. Integrate this knowledge with the study of clinical cases and be able to propose the appropriate type of orthodontic appliance.
Learning outcomes and competences
The student at the end of the semester will have to demonstrate:
Competence in motivating and educating the patient in a primary prevention context, elaboration of the diagnosis, establishment of the treatment plan, evaluation of the treatment results and identification of the need for advanced and/or multidisciplinary treatment, as well as aptitude in the execution of the odontopediatric treatment in a primary, secondary and tertiary promotion field.
Have skills in the diagnosis of malocclusion, including cephalometric analysis and aesthetic analysis of the face. Integrate this knowledge with the study of clinical cases and be able to propose the type of orthodontic appliance
Having acquired skills to participate and develop preventive strategies in community oral health and programmes.

Previous knowledge of the programmatic contents of the curricular units of Oral Public Health and Preventive and Community Medicine; Pediatric Orthodontics and Preventive Dentistry I and Pediatric Orthodontics and Preventive Dentistry II
Program
Malocclusion syndromes - etiology, diagnosis and treatment plan of the various syndromes: compression, cross bite, progeny, deep bite, open bite, premature loss of teeth, deviation of eruptive paths.
Types of orthodontic appliances, removable, fixed, functional and extra-oral.
Clinical cases: discussion of treatment plans
Supervised clinical practice in children and adolescents. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
Implementation of oral health promotion actions in the context of community oral health programs.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical-practical (TP) classes and Seminars
Clinical activitie in children and adolescent patients.Participation in fieldwork in a community context.
The TP classes and seminars aim to increase knowledge and competence in the recognition of pathologies, diagnosis and the delineation of adequate therapeutic strategies. The clinical pactice allow students to be able to apply that knowledge, skills in diagnosis, preventive treatments and to participate in a community oral health programs, in a survey of oral health treatment needs.
The clinical activity report brings up a critical reflection on the performed treatments and about the im of oral health promotion value.

Eligibility for exams
Students will obtain attendance at the UC if they attend 75% of the classes - 75% in the total TP teaching and 75% in the practical clinical teaching / fieldwork.
Calculation formula of final grade
The final classification will be obtained as follows :
TP Assessment 30% + Practical Assessment 70%.
The students will have to obtain the minimum score of 10.0 values (10.0 in 20 values) in each of the evaluation components.
All the evaluation components will be compulsory regardless of the student's status.
