Objectives

Application  and consolidation of the theorical knowledge of Pediatric Dentistry

Skills development in pre-clinical environment  with the most frequently used materials and treatments  in Pediatric Dentistry

Develop clinical knowledge and skills in order to recognize preventive treatment needs and to  performe acts of primary and secondary prevention in patients.

Apply clinical communication skills with patients and caregivers; train to motivate and educate, with the aim of improve oral health literacy and developing skills in the area of community oral health.

To teach the local etiology of malocclusion and the fundamentals of orthodontic diagnosis as well as its clinical application. To teach how to diagnose Class I, II and III malocclusions and define their treatment.

Learning outcomes and competences

Through the knowledge and skills to be acquired students will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of various pathologies and treatment needs in pediatric patients. In addition, they will be able to know the specificities of various auxiliary diagnostic aids. Through the practical activity, it is expected that students will be able to develop the competence to perform preventive acts and prepare therapeutic proposals, namely in preventive and interceptive terms.Understand the malocclusion and its etiology. To know the signs and symptoms of Angle malocclusions and general therapeutic procedures.

1st permanent molar
Dental trauma in temporary and permanent dentition

Oral Surgery and Pathology in children and adolescents
Cavity design
Dental materials in Pediatric Dentistry
Pulp Therapy
Gingival and Periodontal diseases in children
Prosthesis in Pediatric Dentistry
Konwledge of primary prevention methods for oral diseases. Knowledge of human normal and pathologic  development at the facial and stomatognathic level. Malocclusion and biologic and mechanic bases of orthodontic treatment.
Co-requirements- application of transversal skills acquired by students in different areas of Dentistry

Seminars: control of behaviour in Pediatric Dentistry, patients with special needs and medically compromised, dentao alveolar trauma, space mantainers, oral rehabilitation and prosthodontics in Pediatric Dentistry, oral pathology in children

Clinical activity: primary and secondary level prevention procedures; motivation, education  and promotion of health and oral health; improvement of oral health literacy

 Local etiological factors. Radiographic anatomy; Ricketts cephalometric analysis and other analyses. Class I, II and III malocclusions: - components and characteristics - treatment.  Impressions and orthodontic models. Model analysis: Moyers, Bolton, DDM on permanent dentition and Korkaus.  Elaboration of a removable device.

Calculation formula of final grade

50% Theoretical-Practical (30% continuos evaluatiion and 70% TP test) + 50% Practical (40% continuos evaluatiion and 60% P test)
Minimum score of 10.0 (in 20) in each of the theoretical-practical and practical components
Examination appeals- TP examination- 50%+ Practical examination- 50% (minimum of 75% of class attendance - TP and P is required to allow access to this exam). Minimum score of 10.0
