Objectives
The contents were defined in terms of objectives and skills to be acquired by students. The contents include the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of major disorders of the oral cavity requiring surgical treatment as well as the techniques and surgical procedures, so that students are able to diagnose and plan the best surgical treatment for different oral pathologies. At the same time, students will be able to perform clinical and surgical procedures of medium complexity of endodontic surgery, deploy, pre prosthetic and, as a result of this training, they can subsequently subsequent curricular unit evolve into more complex treatments within these same areas.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1 - Study a critical and reflective in the field of Oral Surgery.
2 - Being able to diagnose, plan and execute integrated rehabilitation treatments.
3 - Mastering the techniques and skills needed to perform treatments in the field of Oral Surgery.
4 - Know and master the classic and current scientific literature in the field of Oral Surgery.

6 - Being able to perform clinical and laboratory research.
7 - Know and master the teaching techniques of public presentation.
8 - Have the theoretical and practical bases for the preparation and publication of articles and scientific papers.

Treatment of patients in clinical FMDUP by students under the supervision of teaching, for diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the field of Oral Surgery. The pathologies observed are not subject to any restriction in terms of the type of pathology. Its treatment includes all students have performed at the Clinic I activity (surgery of impacted teeth: Class 1 and 2, Position A, according to Pell and Gregory classification and labial and lingual frenectomias the conventional technique), plus:
Oral pathology treatments with laser diode.
Treatment of soft tissue diseases.
Rehabilitation deploy unit edentulous regions.
Tooth Monoradicular endodontic surgery.
Treatment of cystic pathology.
Surgery of impacted teeth (Class 1 and 2, Position A, B and C, according to the classification of Pell and Gregory).
Pre-prosthetic surgery (maximum length: one quadrant).
Other more complex treatments are performed by teachers, and students as assistants.

Eligibility for exams
For this purpose, students must have at least 75% of attendance in relation to the number of classes taught.
Calculation formula of final grade
- 90% assessment towards the clinical and surgical activity of the student;
- 10% attendance.
