The Oral Surgery II in undergraduate education aims to ensure that students of the MSc in dentistry to develop skills for the practice of Oral Surgery.
Control of pain and anxiety of the patient is critical in Oral Surgery at the student's undergraduate education should be able to manage all forms of local and regional anesthesia required for surgery in the oral cavity and be able to deal with complications that may occur after application of pain control methods.
The student will be able to:
Understand the importance of examining, diagnosing and documenting;
Obtain a medical history and health of the complete patient;
Being able to recognize the surgical material for all interventions;
Being able to work in an operating room;
Be able to perform surgical procedures for a tooth extraction;
Being able to perform a soft tissue surgery;
Being able to treat an acute infection.
Solid knowledge of the course oral surgery I, including:
- Head and neck anatomy
- Anesthetic techniques
- Surgical Instruments
- Therapeutics
- Concepts of biosecurity
1. Technical suture and types of nodes.
2. Incisions, wire types and Needles
3. Extractions (6 lessons)
4. Oral Surgery in hemophiliacs and patients hypo-coagulated
5. Oral surgery in cervical-facial irradiated patients
6. Laser in Oral Surgery
7. Electrosurgery
Theoretical classes are taught essences themes for the student to know in depth the surgical protocol and the implications inherent in a medically compromised patient.
Practical classes provide the student to apply the knowledge acquired in lectures on anatomical models, contact and handling of surgical instruments, simulation and training of surgical techniques in equipment prepared for this purpose, and the first contact with the care of patients in supervised clinical and tutorizado by teachers.
The evaluation of the practical component is made by the implementation of suture techniques and the oral and exemplary evaluation of the extraction technique. The Theoretical exam will consist of questions of "multiple choice" and development issues and short answer. The final grade corresponds to 50% of the theoretical evaluation and 50% of practical assessment.

Final mark from 0 to 20 points = Theoretical testx 0.50 + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark)x 0.50.
