Objectives

- High familiarity with available treatment options in order to formulate an overall integrated plan;
- Ranking the diagnostic tests most commonly used;
- Independent clinical experience in patients under supervision: simple and medium complexity treatments of Fixed Prosthesis (crowns, short and large span bridges, ceramic or metal­ceramic, on teeth and implant), Removable Dentures (partial and full dentures, acrylic and skeletal, and simple and complex implant overdentures) and Occlusion (EMG, TENS, occlusal splints) and placing implants in simple cases (small extension and overdentures bridges);
- Aesthetic sensibility;
Be aware of high pratical laboratory procedures used in fixed: restorations, tooth or implant­supported, with different ceramic systems, removable: prosthesis, including the placement of attachments in implant overdentures;
- Co­ordinate overall treatment and care of patients and appreciate when it is appropriate to refer to a specialist; ­
- Become an effective and efficient leader of a multi professional team.

Learning outcomes and competences

- Perform all appropriate clinical examinations proficiently, collecting biological, psychological and social information needed to evaluate the oral and related medical conditions for all patients.
- Develop high familiarity with available treatment options in order to discuss with patients and make an appropriate choice (if necessary in conjunction with other specialists) and to formulate an overall integrated plan of management for each patient.
- Be competent in-depth knowledge and judicious way of ranking the diagnostic tests most commonly used in Prosthodontics.

- Be competent to provide an independent clinical experience in patients, acquired under faculty supervision, , to the highest ethical and technical standards in line with current knowledge and with the full and valid consent of patients, particularly in simple and medium complexity treatments of Fixed Prosthodontics (inlays, crowns and short and large span bridges, either ceramic or metal-ceramic, on teeth and implant), and which include, in-depth , tooth preparation, provisional restorations, impressions, intermaxillary relations and the mounting of the models in the articulator, the color choice, aesthetic and occlusal trials, and cementation; Removable dentures (partial and full dentures, acrylic and skeletal, and simple and complex implant overdentures); Occlusion and Orofacial Pain (EMG, TENS, occlusal splints).

- Be aware of high pratical laboratory procedures used in all fixed restorations, tooth or implant-supported, and with different ceramic systems; Removable prosthesis, including the placement of attachments in implant overdentures; Occlusion and Orofacial Pain (occlusal splints).
- Be competent in the development of psychomotor skills and aesthetic sensibility.

- Co-ordinate overall treatment and care of patients and appreciate when it is appropriate to refer to a specialist in another area or a dental care professional.

- Be competent to develop group work and multidisciplinary.

- Become an effective and efficient leader of a multi professional team practicing Prosthodontics.

Working method

Presencial

Program

- Clinical history and clinical examination;
- Study of simple and complex clinical cases (with the teacher, in their own class and in the presence of the patient, next week without the presence of the patient). The treatment plan, uni or multi­disciplinary, with alternatives and their budgets, approved by the teacher is presented to the patient, in a written document. The agreed treatment plan will be, in detail and clinical sessions, approved by the teacher;
- Clinical care of patients (2 students per box), for rehabilitation with Fixed Prosthodontics (inlays, crowns and short and large span bridges, ceramic, metal­ceramic, on teeth and implant); Removable dentures (partial and full dentures, acrylic, skeletal, and simple and complex implant overdentures); Occlusion (EMG, TENS, occlusal splints) and and placing implants in simple cases (small extension and overdentures bridges);
- Practical demonstrations by the teacher;
- Once a month are discussed the most exemplary treatment plans of their clinical practice.

Students work at the clinic in groups of two per box, under faculty supervision.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 75% of the lessons.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade is calculated taking into account the following parameters:
- Evaluation of clinical practice, taking into account the attendance and punctuality, familiarity with the procedure, the quality and quantity of teaching support needed, the level of clinical procedure, the correct evaluation of the clinical outcome and the use of the clinical protocol to ensure security patient - 70%.
- Evaluation of reports of patients - 15%.
- Evaluation of participation on monthly sessions of clinical cases debate - 15%.

Classification improvement

The final exam in the recourse and improvement season include a written test, a preclinical practical examination and an oral examination.
