Objectives

Students should develop knowledge and skills in the context of public health, preventive dentistry and oral public health. The students should able to understand and recognize the risk factors and determinants of oral diseases and be able to incorporate a critical view of the importance of prevention, health education health and oral health promotion in a clinical community context.

It is expected at the end of the semester that students have acquired knowledge and developed skills and abilities that enable them to implement preventive measures in clinical basis and in a community context.

In addition it is intended that students acquire skills and competences to plan and develop Community Oral Health Promotion actions.

Learning outcomes and competences

The syllabus enables compliance with the objectives and assessment of learning outcomes, since it allows a review of basic concepts of preventive dentistry and oral health community, allowing students to acquire skills that enable them to implement preventive measures under clinical and community context.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures and theoretical-practical where students are invited to participate in activities related to various practical aspects of various methods or epidemiological research (eg. Survey and data collection) and clinical application of Preventive Dentistry (eg . fissure sealants; determination of salivary ph).

Eligibility for exams

Students must attain at least to 75% of all teorical-practical lectures.
Minimal classification - 10 in 20.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical assessment (60% of final evaluation): 
Evaluation of discontinuous nature and terminal, provides for two tests with a maximum of 40 minutes each. Minimum grade 9 / 20 values 

Written and practical evaluation (40% of final evaluation): 
This assessment, of an ongoing nature and procedure, includes carrying out work sheets (maximum 4), presentation of a paper (oral and written) to be held in groups of 2 elements. 

Components of evaluation theory and practice (Minimum grade 9 / 20 values): 
Worksheets - 40% of theoretical and practical 
Work on Promotion of oral health (oral and written) - 60% of the theoretical and practical component. 

Final classification: 

Final standings = Theoretical assessment (maximum 12 values) + evaluation theory and practice (maximum 8 values) 

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Application of the standards established by the Pedagogical Council of FMDUP for the academic year 2015/2016.
