Oral surgery aims to assure student´s knowledge achievement on classification, etiology and pathogeny of oral diseases and develop abilities on Oral Surgery practice.
Student will be able to:
Understand, examine, diagnose and document a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues.
Attain a complete medical and clinical history.
Acknowledge and evaluate most frequent oral diseases that require surgical and non surgical treatment.
Develop practical knowledge on auxiliary means which help oral diseases diagnosis and treatment.
Be able to carry out surgical procedures for teeth extraction and hard and soft tissues surgery.
The student will be able to:
Understanding the importance of examining, diagnosing and documenting;
Obtain a medical history and complete medical patient;
Recognize and evaluate the diseases of the oral cavity requiring most common surgical and non-surgical;
Developed skills and techniques aids that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral cavity;
Being able to perform surgical procedures for a tooth extraction;
Being able to perform a soft tissue surgery;
Being able to treat an acute infection.
Patient's are consulted by the students in the FMDUP clinic, superviosioned by the teachers. The students will diagnose and treat pathologies on oral surgey.
Clinic practical classes by consulting patients in the FMDUP clinic, and attendence of the students by the teachers in the performence of the clinical and surgical procedures.

See academic regulation. A minimum of 75% of class attendance.
Final mark from 0 to 20 points = (Theoretical testx 0,45) + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark)x 0,45) + (class attendance x 0,1). Minimum of 10 points must be achievd for approval. Although a minimum of 7 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation.
Special works or proofs are unforeseen.
In order to be approved, the students need the theoretical and practical component. Those students whose statute allows them a special evaluation regime may be evaluated apart from the regular calendar.
