Objectives

Theoretical/practical training in dummies aiming at performing dental preparations, provisional restorations, impressions and cementation in Fixed Prosthodontics. These preparations are already more complex from an aesthetic point of view because they are located in the previous sector, and the rehabilitation of destroyed teeth and endodontically treated. The confection of inlay and ceramic veneers are other of the goals of this CU. The evaluation of the students is reached by a practical test at the end of each preclinical theme and a theoretical and practical test at the end of the semester.

Learning outcomes and competences

At this stage of learning, the program contents are arranged in order to allow students to acquire skills and knowledge in the area of Fixed Prosthodontics aimed at the training of dental preparations and materials handling in order to solve, with Fixed Prosthodontics, situations of teeth with aesthetic problems or even in partial edentulous, in the most demanding cases. This learning allows them to workout for the next semester, evolve to situations demanding rehabilitation treatments in aesthetic and functional point of view.

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

After learning achieved at CU Fixed Prosthodontics II, this CU is intended that students develop the training in pre-clinical practice, some of the lessons learned. Thus, students will, in the TP classes, be instructed to make more appropriate techniques in the execution of certain types of more complex dental preparations, as anterior ceramic crowns and rehabilitation of teeth many destroyed and endodontically treated and the handling of materials to perform more complex dental or prosthetic rehabilitations. Students are able to perform fixed bridges of greater length and more complex aesthetic problems with veneers and ceramic inlays.

Program

Theoretical and pratical classes:
- Operating technique of the different dental preparations:
Total crowns in anterior teeth.
Imediate post and core.
Aesthetic inlays.
Ceramic veneers.
Provisional restorations (with impression before tooth preparation and with provisional Richmond crown).
Impressions.
Cementation.
Practical Classes:
- Operating technique of the different dental preparations:
Total crowns in anterior teeth (ceramic).
Endodontically treated teeth (imediate post and core, radicular impression and provisional Richmond).
Preparation of ceramic inlay (impression of the full dental arch).
Ceramic veneers in anterior maxillary teeth (temporary restorations and provisional cementation).

Teaching methods and learning activities

Transmission of theoretical and practical knowledge of Fixed Prosthodontics, so that students know exactly what they will train in preclinical practical classes
Practical training in dumies of each type of tooth preparation under the supervision of a teacher.
Each type of preparation is preceded by a practical demonstration, made in a dumie equal to the students by one teacher of the CU.
Comparison possibility of the student preparation with a preparation "type" made by the teacher in the PrepAssistant system (Kavo).
Distributed evaluation without final exam. 1000 characters
The distributed evaluation is similar to the held in the Fixed Prosthodontics II, it consists of two pratical tests in which students make a tooth preparation in the model and a theoretical and practical test on the subjects performed in practical classes and geared to the future clinic.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Description Type Time (hours) Weight (%) End date
Teste 100,00

Eligibility for exams

Assistance to 75% of classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade is calculated taking into account the following parameters:

1- Practical evaluation - 50%
2 - Theoretical evaluation - 50%

B - Minimum practical/theoretical classification equal or higher values to 9,0 (scale 0-20).
Students with a grade of 17 points or above have to sit an oral exam to justify their grade. In the case of fault to this oral exam, final classification will be 16 val, according to Faculty regulation.
