Objectives

Acquire knowledge theoretical and practical for the treatment with removable prosthesis of simple cases of oral rehabilitation of partially edentulous patient.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be competent:
To understand the biomechanics of rpd, the surveyor functions and to analyze models; to know the components of a rpd and their functions; to plan and design a rpd; to prepare the abutment teeth; to make the individual tray; to carry out and evaluate an impression; to know the laboratory technique of rpd framework; to evaluate the prosthetic framework and run its proof procedures and intermaxillary registration; to carry out altered model technique; to select and position the artificial teeth according to aesthetic, functional, anatomical and physiological criteria and carry out occlusal equilibrium; to implement procedures for fitting and for post-placement of a rpd; to instruct and educate the patient on the use of rpd; to carry out immediate and temporary rpd, and relining and repair of a rpd.

Program

Theoretical Programme: 1)Definition and objectives of Removable Partial Dentures (rpd). Biomechanics. Classification of partially non-dentate arches. Surveyor. Components and design principles of rpd. 2)Planning of preparations to carry out in the mouth. Pre-prosthetic preparation. Working impressions. Construction of rpd frame. Trial of prosthetic frame in mouth. Intermaxillary recording. Altered model technique. Tooth selection, trial with teeth and occlusion. Fitting of final prosthesis. Patient instructions. Revision consultation. 3)Temporary and immediate rpd. Rebasing, repairs and added teeth. Laboratory-practical programme: Analysis of models in surveyor. Planning and design of rpd. Individual moulds. Laboratory techniques for constructing prosthetic frames. Preparation of rest seats in frasaco. Repairs and rebasing. Clinical practice programme: Attending to partially non-dentate patients by the teacher, and fulfilment of the clinical tasks necessary for construction of rpd.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 2/3 of the lessons.
The attendance at classes will be attested by the signature in the student's file that will be provided by the teacher.
Presentation of pre-clinical and clinical work (and respective reports) requested by the teacher.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical assessment - 45%
Practical assessment - 45%
