Develop basic knowledge to permit comprehension of the mechanisms of body function reagarding the integrated assessment of the human organic systems;
Instigate the discussion about the effect of multiple perturbations in organic balance (homeostasis)
Stimulate critical attitude and rational interpretation of physiologic concepts
Stimulate study and information integration capacity, essential qualities for the application of an evidence based clinical practice
1. To learn the cellular and sub-cellular mechanisms, underlying the functional aspects of the human body.
2. To know the normal function of the different organs and systems of the human body.
3. To acquire a base of knowledge to use in the several physiological areas and to apply later in the other curricular units of the course and in the future clinical practice.
- Cellular physiology - cellular membrane and transport mechanisms
- Neuronal physiology and synapse
- Muscular physiology - smooth and striated muscle
- Cardiovascular System - electrical activity of the heart, heamodynamics; mechanisms of arterial pressure regulation
- Blood, Haemostasis and Endothelium
- Respiratory System

1. Practical evaluation:
- Continuos by faculty, corresponding to 25% of the final classification .
2. Theorical evaluation :
- Writen examination corresponding to 75% of the final classification. The examination is made by 40 multiple-choice questions. For approval it is required a minimal classification of 9.5 values.
