Objectives
It is intended that the student acquire competence and autonomy in the formulation of a diagnosis and plan of periodontal treatment in a multidisciplinary view.
Being a discipline of specialization in Orthodontics, it is intended for periodontal concepts and implants involved in the global rehabilitation context.
In this perspective the following types of patients are addressed: young patient, adult patient without periodontal disease and adult patient with periodontal disease. In all, it will be discussed as a form of Periodontics, Orthodontics and rehabilitation treatment with implants for the best results.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the course unit the student must:
To be competent in the formulation of a comprehensive periodontal diagnosis and treatment plan in patients of all ages and conditions, ensuring its sequencing and prioritization of different therapeutic alternatives in a multidisciplinary context
- To be familiar with the different therapeutic alternatives (periodontal and rehabilitating with implants), in the most complex and multidisciplinary cases, especially in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment

The contents will be approached according to the following types of patients:

Young patients: diagnosis, etiology, treatment (frenectomies, non erupted teeth, ectopically erupted teeth, gingivitis and insufficient adhered gingiva)

Adult patients without periodontal disease: specific aspects of this type of patients that can condition orthodontic treatment, and their vision in a final rehabilitation context. The techniques of periodontal plastic surgery that can be performed to improve the aesthetic result of the final orthodontic treatment will also be discussed.

Adult patients with periodontal disease: diagnosis, etiology, pathogenesis, non-surgical and surgical treatment of infection and regenerative treatment. The specific aspects of the help that orthodontic treatment can provide in the treatment of sequelae of periodontal disease and its treatment, as well as the particular aspects to be taken into account from the orthodontic point of view in the treatment of these patients with periodontal disease

The importance of treatment with implants will be presented in a multidisciplinary context with a view to the final result of orthodontic treatment, rehabilitation level and orthodontic anchorage.
