Provide knowledge, both theoretical and practical, to make the oral rehabilitation of partially edentulous patient, through the use of a removable prosthesis.
Students must acquire knowledge to treat simple cases of oral rehabilitation using removable partial denture.
Theoretical Programme:
1)Definition and objectives of Removable Partial Dentures (rpd). Biomechanics of rpd. Classification of partially non-dentate arches. Surveyor. Components of rpd. Design principles of rpd.
2)Planning of preparations to carry out in the mouth. Pre-prosthetic preparation. Working impressions. Construction of rpd frame. Trial of prosthetic frame in mouth. Intermaxillary recording. Altered model technique. Tooth selection and trial with teeth. Occlusion in removable partial dentures. Fitting of final prosthesis. Patient instructions. Revision consultation.
3)Temporary rpd. Immediate prosthesis. Rebasing, repairs and increase in teeth.
Laboratory-practical programme:
Analysis of models in surveyor. Planning and design of rpd. Individual moulds for partially non-dentate patients. Laboratory techniques for constructing prosthetic frames. Preparation of rest seats in frasaco. Other preparations of pillar teeth. Repairs and rebasing in rpd.
Clinical practice programme:
Attending to partially non-dentate patients by the teacher, and fulfilment of the clinical tasks necessary for construction of rpd.
Theoretical lessons – General understanding with theoretical foundations
Practical lessons - Practical application of the clinical and laboratory instruction given in the theoretical lessons
Clinical lessons - Attending to patients.

All grades above 16 must be ‘defended’ in an oral exam, otherwise the student will remain
with a grade of 16 marks.
The final grade can be improved in the two exam periods immediately following that in which the
student had approbation.
