Objectives

- Start students in clinical practice tutored by teachers  of removable prosthesis.

- Contact with materials and laboratory techniques and learning the requirements to be met by the devices necessary for the treatment of partially and total edentulous patients.

-Get skills to be able to deal efficiently with the simple cases, following the steps of the laboratory fabrication of prostheses tutored by teachers.

Learning outcomes and competences

Get skills to be able to deal efficiently with simple cases of oral rehabilitation  following laboratory  steps of making the prostheses.

Theoretical-practical:

Diagnosis of partial and total edentulous patient

Preliminary impressions and study models.

Set up models in the articulator. Analysis of study models.
  Treatment plan. Pre-prosthetic treatment.

Final impressions and working models.

Registration intermaxillary relationship: techniques and materials used.

Recording bases.

Recording with face-bow.

Relating models to the articulator.

Choosing teeth and proof of teeth .


Occlusion in removable prosthesis.

Auxiliary supporting and retaining means of removable prosthesis.

 

Practice:

Introduction to clinical practice by performing preliminary impressions with universal trays and alginate.

Obtaining study models in the clinical laboratory.

Analysis of study models.

Analysis of models in parallelometer.

Care of edentulous patients: clinical examination, treatment plan and conducting all clinical steps necessary for rehabilitation with removable prosthesis.

Discussion of all procedures,with support and supervision of the responsible teacher .

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 75% of the lessons. Presentation of clinical works and respective reports requested by the teacher.

Calculation formula of final grade

 Theoretical-practical component: written test, 45%

 Practical component: ongoing evaluation of clinical practice and reporting - 45%

Attendance: 10%

Final note = component theory and practice + practice + attendance component.

 The minimum grade that the student must obtain in each component is 9v (0-20).

All ratings higher than 16 must be "defended" in the oral test, otherwise the student is left with a final rating of 16 points.

The theoretical-practical and practical components are considered essential to the approval of all students. Students whose status allows the system of special assessment may be assessed outside of the normal schedule in accordance with the legislation in force.
