Objectives

Oral surgery II aims to assure that student develops abilities on Oral Surgery practice.

The removal of a tooth is also a challenge to the student also because profound local anaesthesia is required to prevent pain during the extraction, and control of the patient’s anxiety is necessary to prevent psychological distress.


Learning outcomes and competences

Student will be able to: 
Understand, examine, diagnose and document a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity. 
Be able to carry out the principles of uncomplicated exodontia mainly the surgical procedures for pain and anxiety control and teeth extraction. 
Be able to control the infection in surgical practice.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Solid knowledge of the course oral surgery I, including:

- Head and neck anatomy

- Anesthetic techniques

- Surgical Instruments

- Therapeutics

- Concepts of biosecurity

2.Incisões, types of yarn and needles

3. Extractions (6 classes)

4. Oral Surgery in hemophilic patients and hypocoagulated

5. Oral surgery in patients irradiated 

6. Laser in Oral Surgery

7. Electrosurgery

Eligibility for exams

See academic regulation. A minimum of 75% of class attendance.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final mark from 0 to 20 points = (Theoretical testx 0,45) + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark)x 0,45) + (class attendance x 0,1). Minimum of 10 points must be achievd for approval. Although a minimum of 9,0 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

In order to be approved, the students need the theoretical and practical component. Those students whose statute allows them a special evaluation regime may be evaluated apart from the regular calendar.
