Objectives

Dental Anatomy and Histology I aims learning and obtaining knowledge about the morphology of the anterior permanent teeth, and the ultra-structure of cells and oral cavity tissues. It is destinated for students attending the second degree of the Dental Medicine Integrated Master.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students will develop knowledge, skills and abilities to understand and identify the morphological characteristics of anterior permanent teeth,as well as the ultra-structure of cells and oral cavity tissues. They should also incorporate in its development, a critical view of the importance of this knowledge in the etiology of diseases and their manifestations and their clinical implications.

Theoretical classes - presentation and explanation of dental histology issues


Theoretical and practical classes - presentation and discussion on dental morphology topics.

Practical classes - drawing pictures on specific forms, of cells and oral tissues and of the anterior teeth morphology. Dental wax sculpture made ​​by the subtraction and addition methods.

Eligibility for exams

Three quarters attendance in theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical classes

Calculation formula of final grade

Morphology and histology theoretical examination done with an end-semester test. The classification average obtained in the written test of morphology and histology will have a weighting of 45% in the final standings.

Practical assessment, with the completion of a practical examination at the end of each semester and the evaluation of the practical work done during  practical classes. This classification will have a weighting of 45% in the final standings.

Assessment of student attendance will have a 10% weighting in the final standings.

Minimum score in each component, theoretical and practical, of 9 values out of 20.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Development of a monography, review type, under the Oral Histology subject.

Classification improvement

Written examination of morphology and histology keeping the pratical classes avaliation and students attendance.
