Objectives
Given the curricular proposal presented in 1993 by the American Association of Dental Schools, community and national regulations, including recommendations for implementation of the Bologna Process, as defined educational objectives of the Course of Prosthodontics and Occlusion I of PhD in Dental Medicine :
- Be competent in understanding the evolution of Prosthodontics and Occlusion to this day, his subject of study and research, and its interrelation with other sciences relevant to the training of dentists.
- Be competent in the characterization of the problems associated with tooth mortality and the need for prosthetic replacement, including its magnitude and scale epidemiological.
- Be competent in the concepts and terminology related to the course using an appropriate scientific language.
- Be aware of emotional and psychological effects on patients and their families as well as the social and economic implications of clinical decisions.
- Be competent in the establishment of an effective communication with the patient as well with colleagues and other members of the health team.
- Be responsible for a correct clinical interview and a physical examination, developing a system of observation and analysis, to know to refer and evaluate the seriousness of the obvious and subtle general signs and symptoms , as well as to know linking them in pathophysiological and clinical aspects.
- Be competent in-depth knowledge and how to prioritize so discerning the diagnostic procedures currently used in Prosthodontics and Occlusion.
- Be competent in the acquisition of sound scientific knowledge, enabling not only a theoretical support for its clinical application, but also the realization of a complex and complete rehabilitation planning.
- Be aware of laboratory procedures used in the preparation of single restorations and bridges, dental or implant-supported, removable prosthesis, overdentures on teeth and implants, occlusal and occlusal gutters.
- Be aware of new technologies related to Prosthodontics.
- Be competent in the development of psychomotor skills and aesthetic sensitivity.
- Be competent to resolve in clinical practice, independently, simple or complex situations, such as single restorations and bridges, dental or implant-supported, removable prosthesis, overdentures on teeth and implants, occlusal and gutters.
- Be competent to recognize treatments that exceed their capabilities, and in these situations, refer the patient to the appropriate professional.
- Be competent to develop group work and multidisciplinary.
- Be competent in carrying out scientific research and the use of scientific information critically.
- Be familiar with the notions about the validity of knowledge and the need for training (updating, improving and deepening) in combination with the professional activity.
- Be competent in developing the capacity for self-learning.
- Be familiar with the notions about the social responsibility of the profession.

Eligibility for exams
Presença em pelo menos 75% das aulas.
Calculation formula of final grade
A - The final score is calculated taking into account the following parameters:
1. Attendance and punctuality - 10%
2. Two written tests (continuous assessment) - 90%
B - Final score equal to or higher than 17 must be defended in oral examination.
If the student does not attend the oral examination will have the final score of 16 points
The oral test never leads to a rating below 16 points.
