Objectives
Europen and Portuguese Professional Legislation Course unity has as primary aim to provide knowledge about the business environment of dentistry in the National Health System and is intended for first year students taking a degree in dentistry.
Students should develop knowledge, skills and abilities to understand the rules and regulations governing the professional practice of dentistry, as well as the organizational model of the Portuguese National Health System and its integration of dentistry in this system. Moreover, they should incorporate in their development, a prospective view, critical, strategic and long term the entities and organizations that oversee the professional practice of dentistry in the context of the evolution of the National Health

- General Legislation: Law Basis of Health, Law Office of National Health, Prescription, Medical Certificates, Certificate of Death;
- Specific Legislation: Licensing of Clinical Dentistry, Production, transportation and disposal of wastes; Protection ionizing radiation;
- EU Regulations on the professional practice of dentistry in the countries of the European Community;
- Status of the Dental Association;
- Regulatory and legislative deliberations of the Portuguese Dental Association;

Teaching methods and learning activities
Classes will be taught with theoretical and practical features, a component focusing on the oral transmission of theoretical concepts and a component following the presentation and discussion of concrete cases, practical and fundamental to learning materials versed in the classroom. Presentations will also be conducted by the students of monographs on topics of the program's discipline.

Final note = Average of the 4 mini-tests (45%) + Theme Presentation and Defense (45%) + Attendance (10%)
Minimum rating average of mini-tests - 9 values
Presentation to be mailed until a week before the date of submission (1 point penalty for each day late)
Students from previous year, with the status of worker-student or students wh ofailed continuous evaluation: Final grade rating equal to the final exam
