Objectives

The aim of Occlusion, TMJ and Orofacial Pain II is to provide students the essential basic skills, enabling them in the diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders and the differential diagnosis of other diseases with overlapping symptoms and signs. Apart from that, students should develop skills to plan a semi-adjustable articulator and manufacture an occlusal splint.

Program

Presentation. Introduction to the discipline of occlusion.
Study of mandibular movements.
Occlusal theories.
Occlusal neuro-physiology and pathology.
Muscle Functional Pathology.
Temporomandibular disorders related with disc.
Changes of the articular surfaces. Predisposing factors to temporomandibular disorders. Mandibular sub-luxation and luxation.
Inflammatory pathology of TMJ. Temporal tendonitis. Inflammation of the stylomandibular ligament.
Parafunctions and bruxism.
Muscle Functional Pathology.
Temporomandibular disorders.
Orofacial pain.
Differential diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders.
Syndrome of obstructive sleep apnea.
