Objectives
Acquisition of competencies by students in basic scientific and technical procedures of Operative Dentistry that can lead to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of teeth hard tissues diseases. Students should be able to technically perform the restorative treatments in pre-clinical environment of the area of Operative Dentistry.
Program
Introduction to the discipline of Operative Dentistry.
General considerations on cariology. History of the prevalence of dental caries over time. Etiology of dental caries.
Basic concepts in cariology.
Pathophysiology concepts of dental caries:
Primary etiological factors - host
Primary etiological factors - host - saliva
Oral microflora and dental caries.
Diet and dental caries. Secondary etiologic factors.
Prevention of dental caries and fluoride. Pathophysiology of fluoride.
Prevention of dental caries and fluoride.
Forms of administration of fluoride.
Predominantly systemic fluoride administration and predominantly topical action.
Early childhood caries.
Cervical caries.
Non-carious dental lesions
Criteria for diagnosis of caries lesions.
Criteria for the diagnosis and its relation to the prevention and treatment of caries lesions .
Clinical cariology.
