Objectives
To provide knowledge on basic issues, which are vital to the correct understanding of periodontology.
To provide extensive knowledge on interactions between systemic and periodontal diseases.
To provide extensive knowledge on periodontal pathology.
To document, diagnose and treat mid to moderate Periodontal disease.
To develop psychomotor skills.
Program
*Gingival morphology and histology and dental support structures. *Classification of periodontal diseases. *Etiology of periodontal diseases and periodontal microbiology. *Gingival defense mechanisms. *The importance of the response of the host and of the bacterial pathogenes and the influence of local factors, systemic and iatrogenic, on periodontal disease. *Features of the different types of lesions of the gum. *The periodontal pocket. Features of the different types of periodontitis. *Clinical diagnosis. Factors of prognosis. *Treatment plan. *Chemical control of the bacterial plaque and of periodontal disease. *initial phase of periodontal treatment. Instrumentation principles in periodontology and mechanical control of the bacterial plaque.
