Objectives
To provide the students with practical and scientific knowledge that enables them to diagnose, prevent and treat effectively the dental diseases of the hard tissues as well as to produce efficient treatment planning.
Program
Introduction to the clinical practice.
Clinical examination. Diagnosis of the damaged pulp.
Evaluation of the needs and treatment planning.
Pulp protection (direct and indirect pulp protections).
Dental adhesion. Mechanisms of enamel and dentinal adhesion; dentin bonding agents. hybridization and “generations” of adhesives.
Armamentarium; Matrix bands and strips, wedges, pins and posts.
Moisture control. Rubber dam isolation and cotton wool rolls.
Light cure systems; halogen radiation, LASER, plasma arch and LED's.
Clinical techniques for the restoration of anterior and posterior teeth with composites.
Techniques of finishing and polishing amalgams and composites.
Fundamentals of aesthetics in operative dentistry. The principles of color. The transmission of light through the enamel and dentine.
Clinical use of the glass ionomers.
Cervical dental lesions (carious lesions and non carious lesions – erosion, attrition, abration, abfraction and fractures).
Bleaching of vital and non vital teeth. Diagnosis and treatment planning. Clinical techniques.
