Cycles of Study/Courses
Objectives
Preventive Dentistry and Community Oral Health (MDP I)
• Aims
Our student will be introduced to the Community Oral Health area and Preventive Dentistry methods at this stage (Medicina Dentária Preventiva I - MDP I) as future professional needs specific preparation to answer oral health problems of community. The starting point for epidemiological studies and analysis on Oral Health levels of several universes (populations) is our regularly upgraded data base, started more than 20 years ago. These are fundamental elements allowing evaluation on quality of live.
The data values, taken regularly and systematically in the campus work by each student give them detailed and knowledge of conditioning factors of the Community Oral Health, and give direct contact with reality. Our students integrate several “Oral Health Teams” that observe, in average, per year, 1000 citizen collecting the value of more than 50 variables, depending on the elected model of work.
The structure of the discipline has been the same from the beginning. However it has developed and now is accurate, stimulating the student which assumes successively “the motivator”, “the annotator”, “the observer”, “the clinician” and the “supervisor” roles. All long his formation he participates on the data record, upgrading of data base, applying preventive methods and proceeding epidemiological analysis and program implementation.
