Objectives

Acquisition of theoretical knowledge on the following subjects:
1-Basic elements required to the acquisition of knowledge on Endodontics (review on pulp embryology, pulp histology, anatomy of the pulp cavity and pulp semiology).
2-To provide knowledge on pulp and periapical lesions, including their etiopathogeny, clinic and treatment (pulp caping, pulpotomy and endodontic treatment). Acquisition of knowledge on dental traumatic lesions and on its endodontic implications.
Acquisition of practical knowledge on endodontic treatment, and its implementation on teeth extracted individually or placed in gypsum blocks and acrylic.

Program

1-Introduction to the study of Endodontics. Brief history of Endodontics.
2-Brief review of pulp Embryology and pulp Histology.
3-Pulp physiology. Functions of the pulp with special emphasis on dentinogenesis, sensitive function and defensive function (dentinal sclerosis, reparative dentine or tertiary dentine and pulp inflammation).
4-Morphology of the pulp cavity. Normal and pathological variations. Study of the periapical region. Radiological study of the pulp cavity.
5-Etiopathogen of pulp lesions.
6-Pulp pathology (semiological and clinical study).
7-Periapical pathology.
8-Endodontic treatment based on a detailed study of all its phases.
9-Pulp conservative treatments.
10-Traumatic lesions of the teeth (of the hard tissues, the pulp and of the periodontal tissues; endodontic aspects.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes
Practical classes: students shall be divided into groups (4 groups), 1 group for each teaching assistant and coordinated by the Professor.
Before each practical class there shall be a brief presentation of the work.

Evaluation Type

Evaluation with final exam

Eligibility for exams

Students with a grade between 7.5 (inclusive) and 9.5 points (exclusive) are required to take an oral exam.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Students with a grade of 9.5 points or above are only required to take an oral exam in case they want to get a better grade.
