Teaching methods and learning activities
Texts - on dentistry or other subjects relevant to the course, of varying length and difficulty - will be looked at in class and a number of exercises and activities will be undertaken to help the students develop useful reading strategies.
This is a student-centred course in which students will expected to participate actively. There will also be a certain amount of preparation and consolidation outside class hours.
Material to be used in class will mostly be provided by the teachers but students are expected to have access to a good quality mono-lingual English dictionary and a good quality English-Portuguese dictionary. They will be expected to build up their own glossaries of useful terms – both specific to dentistry and more general words/ phrases which are used in text construction.
