Abstract (EN): The methanol extract of Achillea ageratum L. has shown immunomodulatory activity on the classical pathway of the human complement system. Phytochemical investigation has resulted in the isolation of, besides ageratriol and a new germacrane derivative, 9-acetoxyageratriol, two flavones: 5,3',4'-trihydroxy-3,6,7-trimethoxyflavone and 5,4'-di-hydroxy-3,6,7-trimethoxyflavone. Ageratriol and the flavonoids have also been tested for modulation of the classical and alternative pathways of the complement system but showed negative results at concentrations used. The antioxidant activity of these compounds against a stable free radical, ¿,¿-diphenyl-ß-picrylhydrazyl, was also tested.
