Abstract (EN):
Currently there is a great interest in Health Information Systems (IS) integration. One of its main challenges is to gather parts of the medical record without jeopardising patient data quality. We aim to assess a method to detect patient data inconsistencies, namely with patient identification, on integrated systems. We have developed a Virtual Patient Record that integrates patient data from different Departmental IS (DIS) using multi-agent technologies. On reception of a clinical report, patient identification is cross-checked between systems. When errors occur, clinical reports aren't archived and a warning is sent to the DIS administrator. Patient identification errors have been found in all integrated DIS. In our opinion distributed systems may be better to assess and guarantee patient data quality through information cross-checking between systems. If proper checking methods are in place, the number of inconsistencies in integrated systems tends to decrease.
