Abstract (EN):
This paper describes the construction and evaluation of tetraphenylborate ion selective electrodes (BPh4), using a PVC membrane without inner reference solution, based on tetrapentylammonium tetraphenylborate (TPABPh4) as ion-exchanger and 2-nitrophenylphenyl ether (NPPE) as solvent mediator. The electrodes show a linear response in BPh4 concentration range of 2.5 x 10(-6)-10(-1) M, and a slope of -55.6 mV/log[BPh4], in a pH range of approximately to 2.5-11.5 units. Variations in the potential of about +/-1 mV were registered during a working day. The response time was less than 3 seconds and the lifetime of the electrodes was superior to 18 months. Potentiometric titrations using these newly constructed electrodes were applied to several pharmaceutical preparations containing alkaloids, namely quinidine, pilocarpine and atropine. The results obtained present a mean recovery of 98.3+/-2.2%, 93.2+/-1.0% and 97.2+/-5.5% respectively. The method was adequate for routine laboratory analysis.
