Abstract (EN): Four dolabrane diterpenes and a norseco isolated from Endospermum diadenum, were tested for their influence on the classical and alternative pathways of the human complement systems. While the dolabranes showed a strong inhibition on the classical pathway in a dose dependent manner, the norseco analogue was found to be inactive. None of the compounds showed activity on the alternative pathway of complement. The findings of this study suggest that the anticomplementary activity of some dolabranes, in particular dolabrane 1e is probably brought about through interaction with one or more complement factors. Ca2+ chelation is not likely to be mainly involved in the anticomplementary activity found.
