Abstract (EN):
The Myxosporea Myxidium rhodei Leger, 1905 was detected in the kidney and urinary ducts of Chondrostoma polylepis Steindachner,1866 (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from River Ave, North Portugal (prevalence 80%). Affected kidneys exhibited a high number of hypertrophyc Malpighian corpuscles containing plasmodia with glomeruli in different stages of degeneration and, sometimes, fibrous material within the Malpighian corpuscles. Plasmodia in hematopoietic renal tissue and in the lumen of renal tubules were also observed but a intensive granulomatous inflammatory reaction was never observed in these tissues.
