Resumo (PT): Para a compreensão da arquitetura que a época românica nos legou é por de mais significativo o estudo da sua relação com a paisagem, entendida na sua aceção mais alargada de território. Embora durante muito tempo a historiografia sobre a matéria tendesse a afirmar a paisagem envolvente dos edifícios, caracterizando-a de uma forma geral no seu bucolismo ou num pretenso carácter rural, a verdade é que desde os trabalhos desenvolvidos por Carlos Alberto Ferreira de Almeida (1934-1996) se tem antes tentado analisar essa mesma paisagem entendida enquanto território. Inaugura-se assim um novo período historiográfico que a partir das múltiplas significações e relações imateriais lê a materialidade da arquitetura românica.

Abstract (EN): In order to understand the architecture left to us by the Romanesque period, it is of the utmost significance to study its relationship with the landscape, or in its wider sense, territory. Whilst for a long time the historiography on the subject tended to assert the surrounding landscape of buildings, characterising it overall in its bucolic or in a so-called rural character, the fact remains that ever since the work of Carlos Alberto Ferreira de Almeida (1934-1996), there is an attempt to analyse this same landscape more from a territory point of view. Henceforth begins a new historiographical period which, from its multiple meanings and intangible relations, attempts to look at the materiality of Romanesque architecture.
