Abstract (EN):
This work addresses the challenge of balancing the power output from an Airborne Wind Energy Farm to maintain a stable power flow into the electric grid. This is important to reduce the inherent imbalances in ground-based Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES), which experience significant fluctuations between power generation and consumption. This study highlights the critical role of the desynchronization of the units in the smoothing and stability of the power output. Furthermore, it presents the optimization of the sizing of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) required for seamless grid integration, using ultracapacitors. A metaheuristic approach, Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO), is used to determine the best ESS configurations. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
