Abstract (EN): The global adoption of steel multi-storey modular structures has witnessed a remarkable surge in recent years. Despite their numerous advantages, widespread acceptance has been limited by several factors. A significant barrier to their broader utilization is the need to understand better the seismic performance of Modular Steel Buildings (MSBs). The few studies that have been carried out focusing on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of MSBs pointed out the susceptibility of MSBs to damage when exposed to severe ground motions, particularly within the Inter-Module Connections (IMCs). This research aims to conduct a numerical evaluation of the cyclic behavior of three existing bolted IMCs found in the literature. This evaluation has been conducted by developing advanced 3D Finite Element models in ABAQUS, which have been validated through experimental tests to simulate the cyclic behavior of the IMCs accurately. The aim is to identify and comprehensively analyze potential issues associated with these critical connections' cyclic behavior. The outcomes of this study hold the potential to significantly contribute to the enhancement of the seismic resilience of modular steel structures, ultimately facilitating their wider acceptance and utilization in construction projects worldwide.
