Resumo (PT): O artigo aborda a modelização probabilística e a multiplexagem estatística de fontes de vídeo codificadas com débitos variáveis. A modelização segue os princípios da inferência de Bayes. O objectivo do trabalho apresentado é o de desenvolver algoritmos de multiplexagem estatística de um conjnto de fontes de vídeo (programas de televisão) que permitam rentabilizar a largura de banda necessária à sua transmissão. Em simultâneo, conseguir maximizar a qualidade e o número de programas inseridos no canal de transmissão.

Abstract (EN): The ability to increase the number of programmes offered to the users while simultaneously introducing new interactive features, mechanisms for customisation and increasing the quality, is a requirement of digital television systems. ... In this paper we present a framework for the study of statistical multiplexing techniques based on the use of probabilistic modeling of constant quality video sources. This framework explores inference techiques together with content characterisation to test new statistical multiplexing algorithms.
