Abstract (EN):
Hydrogen is an energy carrier of choice that can be obtained by the electricity-driven decomposition of water in a process called water electrolysis. This technology has been receiving special attention in the last years with the increasing share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the world's energy system. Hydrogen production and storage by electrolysis is considered a promising solution to cope with the renewables intermittency. In this chapter, the principles of water electrolysis and the main types of electrolyzers are described. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
