Abstract (EN): In this work, a 20 W 3-cell proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell stack is developed and studied. This is an initial prototype for the future development of a 200 W stack to be used in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). For this specific application, several considerations need to be made, such as size, weight and operation mode of the stack. The influence of several operating parameters on the stack performance is evaluated. The fans speed (air supply and temperature regulation) and the short-circuit (water production) are the most influential parameters due to their effect on the humidification state of the stack. H2 purge and pressure do not significantly impact the performance. The purge, however, could be a more important factor in a larger stack. © 2022 Proceedings of WHEC 2022 - 23rd World Hydrogen Energy Conference: Bridging Continents by H2. All rights reserved.
