Abstract (EN): Regarding to the knowledge of the parents about the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) 134 inquiries to the post-parturition inpatient, in the Obstetric Service, were done. It was found that 38 (28,4%) of the inquired women were unknowing about SIDS and 32 (23,8%) considered that nothing can be done to avoid it. The information given by health staff was fundamental in avoiding the risk factors of SIDS namely prone sleeping position, according with 97 (72,4%) of the inquiries. Policies need to be developed which reduce the modifiable risk factors of SIDS and this is also an important function of those who work directly with post-parturition women, generally more receptive to this kind of message.
