Abstract (EN): Even though Ecosystem Services (ES) have a significant contribution to human well-being, their value is not always recognized. Notwithstanding, the application of monetary valuation methodologies to these services has grown significantly in the literature in the last decades, in order to internalize values, which have no expression in the market and thus in the decision processes at different levels. Avoided Water Erosion is one among several regulation and maintenance ES. This service has an indirect use value, which was estimated in an area that includes a Site of Community Importance and Ancora River, in the North of Portugal, in ArcGlS ESRI (c) software environment, using the Universal Soil Loss Equation and the Avoided Costs of Erosion. The results obtained indicate that 1,075,236.824 tons of erosion are avoided each year, which, according to our model, have a value of 5,247,155.70 (sic)/year or, on average, 1144.00 (sic)/ha/year. This paper hopes to contribute to the recognition of the value of ES, and the ecosystems in which they are generated, and to integrate it into the decision-making processes to achieve a more sustainable economy.
