Abstract (EN): In this review, the current knowledge of cutaneous squamous cell carcinogenesis (cSCC) is outlined based on an appraisal of the different features of cSCC, with particular emphasis on genetic alterations underlying aetiopathogenesis. When appropriate, diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers for cSCC are also considered. This review is intended to aid future investigation into the molecular characterization of cSCC.
