Abstract (EN):
Because of traffic flow a 19th century chapel started exhibiting small cracks that have increased significantly in recently, due to the circulation of heavy vehicles to nearby construction sites. To study the influence of the different load-speed combinations of the vehicles on the damage mechanism, a finite element (FE) model of the chapel, soil and road was developed using commercial FE software. The model was calibrated with the help of field tests to indentify dynamic properties. With the FE model, the dynamic loads corresponding to vehicles moving along the road were simulated and the correspondent maximum accelerations of some chapel key points were obtained. The computed maximum accelerations of the chapel, using the model, were compared with the recommend and determined values that the building could endure without being affected. This had the objective of defining combinations of maximum vehicle speed-load characteristics advisable or allowed to circulate near the chapel.
