Resumo (PT): Partindo do pressuposto de que só o conhecimento da evolução das ideias sobre um conceito estilístico nos permite compreender na sua totalidade o pensamento que dele se tem, procura esta comunicação debater o momento da invenção/adequação/adaptação do termo românico à escala internacional. A historiograa tradicional sobre a matéria tem-se centrado exclusivamente sobre o papel que a França desempenhou neste contexto, imputando a C. Gerville (1769-1853) a criação do termo romane (1818). Assim, apoiando o nosso discurso na obra cientíca de dois autores ¿ Tina W. Bizzaro (1992) e J. Nayrolles (2005) ¿, iremos acentuar a armação (e aceitação) da anterioridade de W. Gunn (1750-1841) na invenção do termo romanesque (1813). Reconhecendo a importância deste debate historiográco, pretendemos assim debater as diferentes perspetivas que contribuíram signicativamente para a criação de uma rutura historiográca pelo reconhecimento das especicidades do românico nas suas diversas dimensões.

Abstract (EN): Assuming that only the knowledge of the evolution of ideas about a stylistic concept allows us to understand entirely the thought about it, this communication aims to discuss the time of the invention/adaptation the thought that it has, this communication seeks to discuss the moment of the invention/adaptation of the romanesque term internationally. e traditional historiography on the subject has been focused exclusively on the role that France played in this context, by imputing C. Gerville (1769-1853) the creation of the term romane (1818). us supporting our discourse in the scientic work of two authors ¿ Tina W. Bizzaro (1992) and J. Nayrolles (2005) ¿ we will highlight the claim (and acceptance) the novelty of W. Gunn (1750-1841) in the invention romanesque word (1813). Recognizing the importance of this historiographical debate, we intend to discuss the dierent perspectives that have contributed substantially to the creation of a historiographical rupture by recognizing the specicities of the romanesque in its dierent dimensions.
