Abstract (EN):
Nowadays, the steel used in the resistant structure of a bridge, wind and communication towers must meet project requirements on a number of significant features. The referred structures are subjected to dynamic loads (e.g. traffic for bridges, wind and seismic actions) which are responsible for the local fatigue damage at connections. Fatigue cracks may appear and propagate under the action of complex stress fields. An accurate modelling of the fatigue crack propagation requires the knowledge of the fatigue crack propagation model under mixed-mode conditions. This paper proposes an experimental study aiming the evaluation of the fatigue crack propagation rates of the S235 mild steel under mixed mode conditions. This study is compared with the S355 and S690 steels. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
