Abstract (EN): Structural health monitoring (SHM) can provide reliable indicators of the effective structural condition of ageing concrete bridges, in order to detect structural anomalies before their progression to possible collapse scenarios. In this context, this paper presents the SHM of a bridge in Portugal extensively affected by alkali-silica expansive reactions which gave rise to extensive cracking in the pillars and foundations. A real time surveillance system was therefore implemented, in order to detect structural modifications in the infrastructure. The implemented SHM system is based on the continuous monitoring of rotations at the top of all the pillars, joint displacements and selected temperatures. Multiple linear regression models were developed to isolate the operational and environmental effects allowing the application of alarm states associated with damage limits. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
