Abstract (EN):
Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is generically defined as the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. In this section of Evidence Based Paediatrics a series of articles about the conceptual, methodological and operational issues linked to the practice of EBM in the field of Paediatrics will be published in the following issues of this journal. In the present article theoretical and practical issues related to the adequate formulation of clinical questions and the effective search of the current best evidence will be presented. In the first part, a structured process for the formulation of answerable clinical questions, methodologically adequate and helpful in the search for evidence, is presented and recommended. In the second part, factors related to the effective search for the best evidence are discussed, the previous preparation of an adequate search strategy is suggested and several sites, tools and resources, especially helpful in finding the current best evidence, are described and recommended. In the last part of the article a practical example is presented and discussed.
