Abstract (EN):
'Ecstasy' (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)) is a major worldwide illicit drug of abuse. This drug is consumed by adolescents and young adults, frequently associated with rave parties. MDMA became a popular drug, given the effects of mood enhancement and euphoria, altered visual and sensory perception, and empathogen/entactogen properties, as well as a feeling of energy that drives all-night dancing. Concerns regarding 'ecstasy' abuse have been raised given the toxicity that can culminate in death. Immediate toxicity is mostly related to cardiovascular effects and hepatic damage. Meanwhile, long-term effects are related to neurotoxicity and can lead to several psychiatric disorders. Presently, there are no specific treatments for 'ecstasy' addiction or related intoxications.
