HISPORTOS is a project that includes the two research lines developed by the Institute of Modern History of the University of Oporto (IHM-UP): 1.Power and territorial planning; 2.Northwest portuguese seaport studies
It's main object of study are the Northwest portuguese seaports, from Caminha to Aveiro, acording this research plan:
. The geo-morphological features and their interaction with historical dynamics;
. The implantation and subsequent changes in seaport infrastructures
. The articulation between these port areas and the hinterland and vorland;
. The urban area organization;
. The application of technological innovations, associated with hydraulic engineering;
. The production of scientific knowledge of the territory (cartography, topography, hydrologic plans, ...)
These aims led to the constitution of a multidisciplinary team that includes historians, archaeologists, geographers, cartographers, engineers and architects. The team's propose is the development of a research methodology and data gathering that will allow to consider the study area from a pluridisciplinary point of view, and consequently consider all of its geo-morphological, historical and urban planning aspects.
Also foreseen are contacts with international research teams that develop parallel research projects, namely the CEHOUP (Centro de Estúdios Históricos de Obras Públicas e Urbanismo); the CRHMA (Centre de Recherche sur l'Histoire des Mondes Atlantiques), and the CEEA (Centre d'Études des Espaces |
