Objectives

Specialization in Orthodontics has the overall objective of training dentists to be specialists in orthodontics, with a broad and solid base preparation and adequate clinical experience in the use of different methods of treatment, taking into account recommendations of the "Rules of creation, Internal Accreditation and Accreditation of Training Courses in the Continuing Education of the University of Porto", the" Final Report of the Erasmus Project for the Postgraduate Diploma in Orthodontics ", the" Regulation on the Assignment of Securities of the Order Specialty Dentists 'and' Rules of Order of Orthodontics, College of Dentists. "

Professional Abilities

The student should be competent in the diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions and dentofacial deformities. For this purpose, the Student should be able to:

- Recognize deviations from normal development of the dentition and facial growth;
- Diagnose abnormalities of the dentition, craniofacial structures and functional conditions;
- Examine the possibility of orthodontic treatment;
- Develop plans for treatment options and their prognosis;
- Evaluate the relevant psychological aspects of orthodontics;
- Lead interceptives orthodontic methods;
- Orthodontic practice techniques, simple and complex treatment;
- Cooperate in multidisciplinary teams to treat patients with special needs, with functional and aesthetic impairment, including the treatment of dentofacial deformities and cleft lip and palate;
- Exercise specialist with high professional and ethical standards;
- Act as an expert in orthodontics and related matters;
- Developing professional lifelong skills.

Information

 
The teaching staff belongs to the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto, completing their academic performance in this course. In turn, this course has an important clinical aspect, with the care of patients at the Clinic of Orthodontics, whose fees, combined with student fees, allow much of its sustainability.

Beginning in September 2017
End in july 2020

2ªs, 3ªs, 4ªs 5ªs fairs and from 08:30 to 16:00 hours and from 08:00 6ªs fairs at 13.00 hours
