Objectives
To develop knowledge in the field of Oral Rehabilitation, particularly with regard to the scientific-pedagogical areas of Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics and Occlusion, TMD and orofacial pain.
To provide students with the skills that will enable them to practice Oral Rehabilitation in an autonomous and correct manner, in situations of medium complexity.
Learning outcomes and competences
Be competent in:
- concepts and terminologies of the CU;
- medical history and treatment planning for oral rehabilitation, with various options and costs;
-supervised clinical practice in patients of basic Fixed Prosthodontic procedures (inlays, crowns and ceramic or metal-ceramic short-span bridges), Removable Prosthodontics (partial and full dentures, acrylic and skeletal), and Occlusion (therapies for temporomandibular disorders and fabrication and adjustment of stabilization appliances in semi-adjustable articulator);
-psychomotor skills and aesthetic sensibility;
Acquire knowledge on:
-laboratory procedures for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Occlusion and Orofacial Pain (occlusal appliances);
-new technologies related to the CU.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Program
Practical classes with patients at the clinic of FMDUP, including:
- medical history and clinical examination of the patient;
- study of clinical cases and treatment planning, uni or multi-disciplinary, with alternative strategies and the corresponding budgets, that will be approved by the professor and presented to the patient, in a written document. Discussion of all procedures with the supervising professor;
- clinical management of patients (2 students per box), under supervision, for rehabilitation with Fixed Prosthesis (inlays, crowns and short-span bridges) or Removable Prosthesis (partial and full dentures, acrylic and skeletal); of Occlusion and Orofacial Pain (therapy for temporomandibular disorders: intra-oral appliances; occlusal balance; fabrication and adjustment of occlusal stabilization appliances);
- live demonstration on patients, conducted by the professor, of less common clinical situations.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Teaching methodology: Clinical practice supervised by a teacher; presentation and debate of clinical cases; discussion of topics relevant to the scientific area of Oral Rehabilitation.
This course is organized in such a way as to use different teaching methodologies, according to the syllabus and the established objectives.
Thus, practical classes are taught, in which students have the opportunity to apply and develop their knowledge of Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics and Occlusion, in the treatment of medium complexity oral rehabilitation cases.
Beforehand, the clinical history and alternative treatment plans are taken and evaluated, and in more detail the treatment that has been decided upon, always in a sequential, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary logic.
In less common cases, practical demonstrations are given by the teacher in charge.
The clinical practice classes are complemented by sessions for the presentation and discussion of clinical cases, as well as the discussion of topics relevant to the scientific area of Oral Rehabilitation.
All classes are compulsory.

Eligibility for exams
Attendance at at least 75% of classes and submission of work requested by the teacher.
Attendance at classes will be confirmed by the student's signature on the attendance sheet provided by the teacher or by the teacher marking the student's attendance.
In this course, all classes are compulsory.
Calculation formula of final grade
-Assessment of clinical practice (applying the SCOT methodology), taking into account attendance and punctuality, familiarity with the procedure, theoretical knowledge inherent in the clinical case, the quality and quantity of teaching support required, the level of clinical procedure, the correct assessment of the clinical outcome and the use of the defined clinical protocol. - 80%
-Assessment of clinical practice reports - 20%
- It is also possible to prepare a scientific paper, in groups of 1-3 students - not compulsory - 20% of the clinical grade. The evaluation of scientific work never reduces the grade.
All grades above 16 must be defended in an oral exam.
Classification improvement
Assessment in the appeal, grade improvement and extraordinary periods includes a theory test and/or oral exam and a practical test.
